Following the first death on the field a Special General meeting of the Coober Pedy Progress Association was held on 5th June 1921.  The purpose of the meeting was to form a Hospital Committee which would raise funds for the building and equipping of a small hospital. The Hospital Letter book recorded letters were sent to Rev. John Flynn of the Australian Inland Mission (A.I.M.) seeking their support in the provision of a trained nurse.  Another letter was sent to the State Government for financial assistance.  Further letters recorded requests for sorely needed medical supplies and equipment.  Enquiries and negotiations commenced to purchase and transport a building from Tarcoola that would meet the needs of the community.  In August 1921, a building site was selected on Hospital Reserve for the placement of the building.  However, nothing ever progressed from this initial start.
