Sr Vicky McCormack

Awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1987 for service to Aboriginal welfare. Named ‘Tjinkuma’ first by the Golden Girls.

Sr Victoria (Vicki) McCormack fondly known as Sr. Vicky throughout the community was named Coober Pedy’s Citizen of the Year for her many years of dedication and service working to improve the health of the Aboriginal Community.  Sr. Vicki’s continuous efforts and hard work was once again acknowledged when she received the Order of Australia Medal for services to Aboriginal welfare and to the community.  (Reference: The Canberra Times (ACT): Mon 8 Jun 1987 Queen’s Birthday Honours List).

Sr Vicki was the Child Health Nurse from 1977 – 1999 working for the Aboriginal Health Council until 1997 when Umoona Tjutagku Health Service Aboriginal Corporation was established.  Sr Vicky and the Aboriginal Health Workers had offices and provided services from the Community Health Centre.  Sr Vicky was given the Aboriginal name – Tjnkuma. in honour and recognition of her dedication and service to the Aboriginal community.
