Mr. Albert McCormack & Mr. Bob Amorosi undertook the task of establishing the Coober Pedy Fire Brigade.  Albert and Bob gathered 6-8 community members who would become the first group of volunteers.  Albert recalls they only had 2 very large Fire Extinguishers which although the extinguishers were useful in a fire, they were too big to manually carry around.

The original Coober Pedy Fire Brigade Shed was built and located in Paxton Rd (where it still stands today). Albert McCormack recalls the dimensions of the shed needed to be large enough to accommodate the 7’ x 4’ enclosed 2 wheeled trailer that replaced the small truck which had been the original vehicle used to carry the CFS equipment.

According to Bill McDougall when the Coober Pedy Fire Brigade shed was built the Mine Rescue squad relocated their equipment and headquarters from the Police station to the rear of the shed.
