The CWA held a social evening at the Opal Inn, in their campaign to raise funds to replace the fly screen in the windows on the verandah with glass. This sealed the verandah from the outside elements and the verandah was then able to be utilized as the Children’s Ward. Funds raised totaled $1,082.15. The social evening included a discotheque, cake stalls and a CWA barbecue.

Mrs. Jenny Gough recalls Mr. Bill McDougall as being the person who undertook the task to replace the fly screen with glass into each of the window frames.
