Although initially the monthly Drs clinics had been conducted at the rear of Mark Store, it was around this time when a dedicated room was set up and made available for the monthly visits at the Lutheran Mission on the Aboriginal Reserve (now known as Umoona Community).

Mr. William (Bill) McDougall arrived in Coober Pedy in May 1959 when the population was starting to grow.  The discovery of opal at 8 Mile in 1946 started a new rush.  Then in the 1960’s European migrants seeking freedom and independence came in great numbers to seek their fortunes.  Bill also recalls many miners from Andamooka were coming to Coober Pedy with the hope of finding their luck.  The community was growing and growing rapidly.
