A new 20 bed Hospital was opened on the 8th October 1982 by the Hon. Jennifer Adamson MP, Minister for Health.  It was designed specifically for desert conditions and won an Architectural Award for “Buildings in their settings” due to its unique design of shaded verandahs and a sheltered central courtyard.  Sr Kath Marsh (now Sr. Kath Kruger) was the first appointed Director of Nursing (DON) in the newly built Hospital.
